Last week I told you the truth about TikTok Shop case studies….

One of you replied and just said: "sobering."

And that was me being kind......

I will die on this hill:

"The cold start on TikTok Shop is brutal."

But it’s worth it… just ask our clients (humble brag)

But do you know the truth about the ‘cold start’ on TikTok Shop?

TikTok Shop Cold Start

Starts off fun…….

On Amazon you've got reviews, rank, and a PPC dial you can crank until something moves.

On TikTok Shop you've got none of that.

No reviews. No sales history. And your affiliates are effectively your customers, because they're the ones who have to go and sell for you.

So you do the only thing available. You give product away.

Then you wince at what comes back.

You sent a brief, but they didn’t read it…….I don’t think affiliates can read (I am a former headmaster….. I am allowed to say that 😉)

💡 You can't force a sale on TikTok Shop.

Samples are to TikTok what PPC is to Amazon. A necessary evil.

65,606 messages. 194 replies.

That is a 0.3% response rate

I pulled one shop's numbers this morning:

  • 65,606 DMs sent

  • 24 outreach campaigns built. 14 of them binned.

  • 273 creators posted a video. Four cleared $50 🤬.

Here is a screenshot from another shop the samples in a (newly launched, and this is a success as they made a sale):

176 sample requests, 10 samples sent, 1 sale

Here is the kicker

That screenshot is terrible and puts doubt in TikTok Shop

But……

This brand will clear $1m in the next few months….. because that sale, gave us the data we need to duplicate those results at scale.

The account doesn't die in week one

It dies in week six

Week one you're excited. Week six you're just...... tired.

Here's a real shop. Using the same affiliate outreach tactics as every other brand:

Nothing broke. They'd burned through 160,000 invites and run out of good creators. The list aged and the message never changed.

That's the trap. Week six is exactly when a tired person keeps firing the same strategies.

💡 Affiliate outreach is tough because brands are not split testing their creators and outreach message (the average affiliate receives 100 sample messages per day…. why is your brand different?)

The one employee you need

And they will be your cheapest

Times are changing and your staff needs to as well.

We have all seen the impact of AI….. but how can we use it to save time and money on TikTok Shop?

My team and I spent months figuring that out.

We built our own TikTok Shop agents that:

  • Search 4 different platforms for the best affiliates for your brand

  • Creates all your affiliate outreach campaigns

  • Manages all your affiliate communication

  • Create custom made briefs

  • Run all our TikTok Shop Ads

  • Updates you 24/7…. they never sleep

  • Lots more…..

Did I mention that we now handle more brands and do a better job as result?

Most importantly, these agents will always need a ‘human-in-the-loop’. They help your employees but will not replace your employees….. they can 10x your employees

Most importantly, the cold start doesn't get shorter. It gets cheaper.

Thanks for reading.

PS.... I am running a free webinar on these agents, just vote to be included:
